Driving Lessons in North West London: 8 Tips On Passing Your Driver’s Test

Here are the best Driving Lessons in North West London tips that most students will find very useful especially beginners students.

1. Don’t rush!

This is the number one thing that causes students to fail during the test. Sweat may make your palm’s slippery, but your foot on the gas will be just fine. It’s actually perfectly legal to be around 5 miles below the speed limit, and your evaluator won’t mark you down. Meanwhile, you’ll feel more comfortable and have more time to make decisions.

2. Traffic Checks Are Mandatory- So Do Them
During the driving test, a “traffic check” means that your examiner sees you look in at least two mirrors and then over your shoulder. You must do this any time you transition lanes, turn, or pull to/away from the curb. These are easy points, and you won’t want to miss them!

3. Always Use The Signal
You may think that because the right lane can only turn right that you don’t need to listen to the clicking of the turn signal, but this is false. Driving instructors are notoriously particular about the turn signal and you must use it any time you move out of your lane (including to/from the curb) or make a turn.

4. Turn Off The Radio
While you may enjoy jamming to hard metal, your examiner may not. It would be a shame to be judged more harshly simply for your music taste, and since you can’t know your examiner ahead of time it’s better not to risk it. Additionally, you’ll be eliminating a distraction.

5. Schedule Your Test Wisely
Tests in the rain, snow, or other harsh weather are subject to additional road rules and will be harder to pass. Check the weather and aim for a sunny day where you have few other obligations to cause stress.

6. Know Your Car
If you’ve never driven in a specific car, don’t test in it! This should be obvious, but many people are willing to sacrifice experience for laziness. Avoid this at all costs and make sure the car you’ve practiced in will be available on test day.

7. Check Your Signals Before the Test
Many people don’t know that before you ever start driving, the examiner will check that all your signal, brake, and headlights are functional. Since many cars don’t tell you when one burns out, enlist a friend before the test to help you determine if yours measure up.

8. Practice Where You’ll Test
If you lucked out and got an appointment at a DMV near you, you may already know the area well. But if you’ve scheduled somewhere you don’t usually travel, spend a day driving around the area and learning the dynamics of major intersections and roads in the area.

5 Tips for Driving in The Rain

Driving in the rain can be disastrous to a driver with little or no knowledge of what to do in extreme weather. It ‘s hard to steer or brake your car while it is raining. This is because the friction between the tires and the road is momentarily interfered with due to rain. It is at this point where the tires lose contact with the road’s surface and drive on a layer of water. This is known as aquaplaning. What do you do to drive safely despite the weather condition? This article will give five tips for driving in the rain.

1. Check the status of your equipment before embarking on any journey.

Safety starts before driving. The tread on your tires should be at 3 millimeters. The legal minimum requirement for the tread is 1.6 millimeters. But at that depth, it would take a car extra meters to stop once you brake while raining. Therefore replace your tires before the minimum depth of tread is reached. Check whether the lights and turn signals are functioning properly. Replace wiper blades that do not clear the windscreen.

2. Slow down

It is scary when your vehicle starts aquaplaning, and it is normal if you speed up. Your car is practically driving itself. It is slipping, sliding and headed in the wrong direction. If this happens, stay calm and step lightly on the accelerator pedal to slow the vehicle down. Don’t turn the wheel or brake, for this will interfere with the balance of the car. By doing this will get you back in control of your vehicle.

3. Turn on the lights.

Your goal is to see and to be seen. Vision is impaired during the rain therefore turning on your headlights will increase your vision. Do not turn on just any headlight. Only use low beam headlights which light up the road at shorter distances of about 150 metres. High beam headlight in thick fog will reflect the light back to you, making it impossible for you to see.

4. Maintain a large distance

As mentioned above, tyres whose treads are at 1.6 millimetres take extra 8 metres to stop once you brake in rain. You may not be in a position to replace the tyres at least once a month as recommended by the manufacturers. Therefore, your car will take longer to stop. Maintaining a gap will create additional space and prevent accidents.

5. Eliminate any distractions.

This includes not using your phone. Remember the weather is extreme and all your attention should be on the road. Keeping your focus at this moment will ensure you follow the course of the car ahead of you because it leaves a path with less water.

Why Driving School is Important

There are numerous benefits to enrolling in a driving school.
First and foremost, increased safety. Driving school can give information and resources that drivers may have been previously unaware of. According to AAA, driver’s ed helped reduce teen accidents by 4.3%, and reduced tickets issued by 40%.

Driving instruction and advice from family and friends can be convenient and practical, but attending driving school can ensure the student has received comprehensive education and tools before beginning on the road. Driver’s ed prepares students for the road test and exam by spending 30-40 supervised hours driving, reviewing traffic laws, and providing real-life scenarios and cases for the driver. An added benefit of completing driving school, is reduced insurance premiums. Many insurance companies offer a discount for enrolling in a driving program, due to the possibility of decreased liability. Though the discounts can vary, the savings usually outweigh the costs of the driver’s course.

Whether a new teen driver, or experienced with traffic laws, there are benefits to attending driving school. Consider a course to review skills, learn tips, and remain a safe and informed driver.
