The Practical Driving Test.

The Practical Driving Test.

testi-5The practical driving test is straightforward and has been designed to see if you can drive safely in the different everyday road and traffic conditions. It also tests your knowledge of the highway code and your ability to demonstrate this knowledge whilst driving.

After meeting your examiner the next stage is the eyesight check. If you fail this, your test will be cancelled. If you pass the eyesight check you will be asked 3-4 questions about your vehicle including safety checks and basic vehicle knowledge. You can find out more about this section by checking out my video in the ‘show me tell me section’ which is linked at the bottom of the site.

Independent driving was brought into force 4th October 2010

testi-1Driving tests will include approximately 10 minutes of independent driving while negotiating traffic, signs and a series of directions. You will be shown a diagram of the route you are expected to take before you set off. You must then use the road signs to navigate to the designated destination. It doesn’t matter if you don’t remember directions or if you go the wrong way, that can happen to the most experienced drivers. This is not a test of your orientation and navigation. It is merely to demonstrate that you can drive independently.
Vehicles you can use for the practical driving test.

Vehicles you can use for the practical driving test.

As long as it is road worthy, you can use any car. There are some vehicles that can’t be used for safety reasons. You will need to check that a recall or safety notice does not affect the vehicle you intend to use for your practical driving test.

Finally your test results.

When the test has ended you can call your instructor over if they didn’t go with you on your test. This is so they can listen to the result and feedback. The examiner will tell you if you have passed or failed. You can take another driving test after ten working days.
